Now that we are a few weeks into the new year, we are continuing to push forward in our resolutions. Whether that includes healthier eating, better fitness or an overall better lifestyle, Mammoth Creameries is here for you. We are here to not only give you the motivation to continue moving forward but to assure you that there are some great tips to get started on your new low-carb, low-sugar, keto diet for this year and beyond.
Our first tip for starting the keto diet, or a similar type of diet, is to get an understanding of which foods are encouraged to eat and which foods you should avoid. Carbs will be very limited, but keep in mind that carbs come in other forms besides breads and pastas. This also includes some fruits and vegetables, as well as beans. Sometimes, when developing a change in lifestyle, it can be difficult to come up with new meal ideas, knowing that your old options have changed. Pinterest has become our best friend — there is a plethora of low-carb and keto diet recipes out there and tons of low-carb variations of your favorite dishes!
The second tip is to recognize this is more than just a change in carbs, this diet may also affect your protein intake. Although one of the first thoughts about keto is that you are pretty much cutting out most carbs, you should be aware that protein also plays a huge part in ketosis. This is because protein can be converted into glucose and thus take your body out of ketosis so you’ll want to moderate your protein intake as well.
Tip number three is to be prepared for the ‘keto flu’. Going into ketosis affects everyone differently, so there may be some side effects to look out for when you’re first getting started. You may feel tired and lethargic, or you may experience some mental fogginess. The change of fiber in your diet may also affect your bathroom habits. A way to prepare for this is to increase your electrolytes. The body will need more sodium and potassium to keep it running smoothly. Try to include non-starchy vegetables such as asparagus and bell peppers into your meal plan.
The keto or low carb journey becomes less worrisome when you know there are easier, more convenient and healthy options out there for smart snacking and healthy living.
The great thing is that our products have no added sugar and is a perfect addition to any low-carb or ketogenic diet. Our ice cream is made with all-natural ingredients so you don’t need to worry about added sugars, artificial flavors or an overload of carbs.
