type 1 diabetes is

November is National Diabetes Awareness Month and Mammoth Creameries is dedicated to supporting and raising awareness for the diabetic community. This is a cause near and dear to our hearts as our co-founder Tim was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when he was 28 years old.

“The way we found out that I was a type 1 diabetic was pretty terrible. I had been sick for about 18 months, and one night it all come to a point. I almost died right there on our kitchen floor. Susan saved my life that night, and has many times since that day.

Diabetes sucks, everything becomes a little more difficult. From going to the grocery store to running to sleeping — and no matter how hard you try, at this point, it will not go away. It constantly has to be managed. My mind never fully rests because it’s always in the back of it.

Diabetes can and will change your blood sugar at any time for any reason. Being so sensitive to foods forced us to think outside the box to still have “everyday” items — ice cream being #1, which is how Mammoth Creameries was born! I am not sure how Susan came up with it. All I know is that I could have never thought of this. Susan has always had great vision when it comes to health foods. One example is that she had me try coconut oil pulling way before it was cool. Or she would make the fruit-infused sparkling water, way before sparkling water was trending.”

Over 34.2 million people have diabetes — that’s 10.5% of the US population! And even more so are pre-diabetic. That’s why we’re on a mission to support this community in any way that we can.

Tim has never let his diabetes diagnosis define him or hold him back. In fact, he makes it a point to break barriers in spite of his diagnosis. Fun fact: did you know Tim ran a 100-mile ultra-marathon race last year? And he crushed it!

Tim and the Mammoth Creameries family are dedicated to raising awareness and giving back to the diabetes community. We’ve recently announced the sponsorship of the professional track sprint cyclist and Olympic hopeful Mandy Marquardt. Mandy is a fellow type 1 diabetic and has raced professionally for 10 years for Team Novo Nordisk, the world’s first all-diabetes professional cycling team and for the USA Cycling National Team.

Mammoth is also a sponsor of Beyond Type 1’s #TheDropSpotted campaign.

For the entire month of November, we’re offering $5 off all online orders with the discount code: DIABETES. You can order on our website here.
